Emerson's actions
Wildlife
Research Benefits of Biodiversity
I will spend at least 15 minutes researching how biodiversity positively impacts our world and how the loss of biodiversity harms it.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Food
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 15 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Climate
Stay on the Ground
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Oceans
Learn about Our Oceans
I will spend at least 15 minutes learning about how our oceans support life on Earth by producing oxygen, regulating climate, and providing habitat, food, and jobs.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 15 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
People
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 2 hour(s) in my community helping people who are most at need right now, including elderly and immunocompromised people, people without childcare, and people whose jobs have been affected by social distancing measures.
Fresh Water
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Emerson Rogers 4/30/2020 10:03 AMFor volunteering in my community, I went to the grocery store and got essential items for older friends of mine. I felt like I was being helpful to them during this hard time and that I was able to make a difference to them. I am glad that this challenge encouraged me to help out in my community. -
Emerson Rogers 4/29/2020 5:41 AMAfter watching the movie for assignment #2, I feel even better about not using plastic water bottles. I had never learned about how bad it is for your health to drink water out of plastic water bottles. I think that I will make having reusable water bottles a lifestyle for myself after this challenge. -
Emerson Rogers 4/28/2020 8:01 AMI have really enjoyed this challenge - especially since I have been staying home so much more because of corona. I have been so surprised to see how many plastic water bottles I use a day. I never realized that I only used plastic water bottles until I had to become aware of what I was drinking my water out of.
