What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

When I must use a disposable bag (like right now, when reusable bags aren't always safe for others in a store) I opt for paper and reuse it later. I use it to line my trash and recycling bins, use it to wrap boxes for mailing instead of putting a box in another box, or save it for when I inevitably will need a bag at another time.

How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

I'll buy based on when I can realistically use it. If it expires soon, but I can use it that night, take it off the shelf and bring it home!

Best by doesn't mean don't use it after.
