REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Lucia Smith 4/28/2020 6:09 AMConnecting with others is important because it lets them know that we care about them and are thinking about them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Forest-Friendly FoodsHow difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Lucia Smith 4/14/2020 6:21 AMIt is very hard. I do still eat chocolate, but choose fair trade and organic products when possible. I don't drink coffee or buy products with palm oil. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Lucia Smith 4/14/2020 6:17 AMI don't eat fish because I am vegan, so I do believe that they fall in the guidelines. It was, however, interesting to learn about these efforts. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Lucia Smith 4/13/2020 6:06 AMBu knowing the difference, I can help the planet by not throwing food away that could still be eaten. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Lucia Smith 4/03/2020 6:48 AMI think that we absolutely do need the beauty and mysteries of nature for our overall health and well being. For a culture that spends most of its time indoors, we are becoming overweight, depressed, and unconnected with the very source of our own life: Mother Nature. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Research Benefits of BiodiversityHow can you encourage biodiversity by your own actions?
Lucia Smith 4/03/2020 6:44 AMI can help encourage biodiversity by planting native plants and advocating for preservation of habitats. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Learn about Our OceansWhat is one way in which oceans support your life on Earth? What is one way you can help take care of ocean health with your actions?
Lucia Smith 4/03/2020 6:19 AMOceans act as regulators for the Earth's temperature and climate by dispersing the unevenly absorbed heat from the sun across the planet. I can care for the ocean by using fewer plastic straws. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Lucia Smith 4/02/2020 7:14 AMSpending time outside allows us to connect with the harmonies of nature and brings us peace, calm and restoration. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Eco-friendly GardeningWhat are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.
Lucia Smith 4/02/2020 7:09 AMThe French Brood River is very polluted, as well as the Swannanoa River. We also have flooding. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Research a Wild AnimalWhat interesting facts did you learn about the animal you researched? What are some of your favorite things about this animal?
Lucia Smith 4/02/2020 6:28 AMI learned that wolves are born blind, and live in packs with an alpha male and female. Wolves are critical to the harmony and health of every ecosystem! I love wolves because they are powerful and strong, and very adaptable. Humans admired wolves when we were hunter gatherers, and often learned from their successful tactics.
