avery's actions
Forests
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 3 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Fresh Water
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
People
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
avery spradley 4/01/2020 6:58 PMIt is extremely true for me. I have began to take walks around my neighborhood with my dog to explore new trails and paths to places that I never knew existed. Today I took a long walk and discovered a beautiful pond filled with different types of birds, frogs, and plants. Most people spend time indoors because it is easier to sit around than it is to get up and make an effort to go outside and explore nature and wildlife. However, it is so worth it to get up and explore the beauty of nature around you! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Use a Reusable Water BottleUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?
avery spradley 4/01/2020 6:54 PMI can post about the effects of how people's and wildlife's wellbeing are being damaged by the harmful bottling processes being used by some corporations who decide to ignore the rights of local people. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
avery spradley 4/01/2020 6:51 PMI keep a lot of single use coffee cups in my room to use with my Keurig throughout the day. It is much easier to use these and just throw these away when I am done, rather than having to wash a mug each time I use my Keurig. I started using a reusable mug today, and though it takes more time to wash the mug each time, it makes me feel like I am making a difference in the environment by using a reusable mug.
