Wildlife

Support Pollinators

At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 120 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.

Wildlife

Research a Wild Animal

I will spend at least 30 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).

Update: It is still so easy to incorporate some garbage pick-up into our daily dog walking routine, and my daughter is a very vocal reminder when I get distracted by something and walk by a piece a garbage. I can't understand why more people don't do it!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What interesting facts did you learn about the animal you researched? What are some of your favorite things about this animal?

So fun! With my daughter home with me all the time now (due to COVID-19), we wake up every morning and spend at least an hour (if not more) watching the "virtual safaris" being aired via FB from the Cincinnati Zoo and the Portland Zoo! We have learned more about wild animals in this time frame than ever before- and it has sparked the interest of my daughter to maintain our wildlife to protect the populations of so many amazing creatures!

I've convinced my BA205 class to research and support the Backyard Habitat Certification Program for our term project in an effort to spread awareness and empowerment to those interested in utilizing their at-home time in a way that benefits our natural pollinators and neighboring animals!

I'm finding it easier and easier to grab an extra dog poop bag and pick up any garbage I see during our daily walks! I've gotten my daughter in on it now, and people literally stop and thank us for doing it. I hope we are inspiring them to do the same!
