REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Earth Day Action: Research and Support Local OrganizationsWhy is it important to support local organizations and businesses? How does it help to build a more resilient community?
Margaret Stewart 4/30/2020 10:40 AMBy supporting local businesses it stabilizes the economy in your locality, especially during this time. Me and my family order pizza, pasta and other items from local businesses. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Earth Day Together! Earth Day Action: Share Eco TipsWhat environmentally friendly habit have you most recently implemented? How do you ensure that you are successful in creating or changing a habit?
Margaret Stewart 4/22/2020 10:52 AMI recycle everything I can at my house, which is an easy way to be ecofriendly. I make sure to check every plastic and paper if I can to maximize recycling. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Forest-Friendly FoodsHow difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Margaret Stewart 4/20/2020 10:29 AMI have not been able to go to the store very often recently to actually buy items that are not harmful, but once quarantine it up, I will begin doing my best. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Learn about Our OceansWhat is one way in which oceans support your life on Earth? What is one way you can help take care of ocean health with your actions?
Margaret Stewart 4/20/2020 9:01 AMOceans absorb much of the CO2 in the air which is a huge positive and negative of the ocean. It cannot hold much more CO2 and the CO2 is harming the life. I can take of ocean health by reducing my use of plastic bags and straws to reduce litter. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Margaret Stewart 4/14/2020 11:44 AMYes, I think they do. I do not usually have fish very often maybe once a week at the most. Sometimes not at all. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Margaret Stewart 4/13/2020 10:11 AMI completely agree. The Earth is what sustains the human race; we need to appreciate that. A culture that is exclusively indoors will lose contact with the outside world and become detached from the true nature of their survival. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Leave No TraceEducator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?
Margaret Stewart 4/13/2020 10:01 AMSpecifically for me, I feel most passionate about the amount of litter that people leave at campsites. At my lake house, people used to be able to camp on the island across from my house. Now, we cannot because so many people have littered and lost this opportunity for everyone else. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Use a Reusable Water BottleUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?
Margaret Stewart 4/05/2020 5:40 PMI can advocate for these people by restricting my usage and purchase of bottled water and increasing my knowledge of the deceitfulness of these private corporations. With this knowledge, I can tell other people and decrease the use of plastic bottles. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Margaret Stewart 4/05/2020 5:34 PMIt will force you to understand where all the natural resources originate, and what is being destroyed by current deforestation happenings. I feel like I belong and need to protect this wonderful Earth. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Margaret Stewart 4/03/2020 10:19 AMIt makes me feel great and less of a burden on the environment. Since I am reducing my personal contribution to the landfill there will be one less coffee or tea cup in the landfill.
