How can you encourage biodiversity by your own actions?

Plant a diverse garden - this will help it be more resistant to pests.  Also flowering trees will attract pollinators which will help the garden.  Perhaps convert part of a grass lawn to be more diverse by using flowers and trees.  Learn more about the 'weeds' growing in the yard as some can deter pests and others are edible.  Buy local fruits and vegetables and visit farmers markets

What was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?

More pandemics?  Not so much voluntary but it has allowed me time to do further research and learn more about the country.  I still hope to visit one day!  I learned about the formation of Ha Long Bay which dates back over 500 million years!

Many of these things are what I do in my everyday life. Going to push myself in the same half to learn some new things and do some of the one time challenges!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?

    Meredith Sullivan's avatar
    Meredith Sullivan 4/07/2020 11:44 AM
To ensure the resilience of our water supply we need to think about restoration, management, and conservation of existing water supplies.  We need to start this now and not years from now when it is an urgent issue.  Community planning and involvement will help to develop solutions and solicit buy in from those affected
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Fresh Water Conserve Toilet Water
What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

    Meredith Sullivan's avatar
    Meredith Sullivan 4/07/2020 11:37 AM
it is predicted that by 2020 about 30-40% of the world will have water scarcity, and according to the researchers, climate change can make this even worse. We need to think more creatively about harvesting and storing rainwater and using gray water for some functions to reduce our overall dependency on fresh water supplies.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

    Meredith Sullivan's avatar
    Meredith Sullivan 4/03/2020 10:23 AM
I've been using Compost Crew for about 3 years now!  I have a 5 gallon bucket that is picked up weekly.  I only put my trash can out for pickup every 4-6 weeks now.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Meredith Sullivan's avatar
    Meredith Sullivan 4/03/2020 10:10 AM
I have limited my meat consumption over the years because of the detrimental environmental impacts.  I think in this country eating meat is seen as a status symbol because it tends to be more expensive (i.e. fancy steakhouses!)
