Ally's actions
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 3 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
Bringing home unique souvenirs from trips you’ve enjoyed is meaningful, and giving people unique gifts from other places is fun. Seek souvenirs and gifts that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 5 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Ally Sundquist 4/23/2020 3:52 PMSpending time outdoors has always helped me. I love being outside in nature whether I'm sitting on my back patio or taking a hike. It has always made me feel grounded and at peace. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Seek Alternative Gifts and SouvenirsHow do your consumption choices affect the health of wildlife and other communities?
Ally Sundquist 4/23/2020 3:44 PMWhen I travel I make sure I buy local souvenirs. When in Seaside, Oregon in buy local handcrafted taffy. In Hawaii, I bought hand made shirts and fruit from a local flea market. Flea markets are a great way to support your community. -
Ally Sundquist 4/23/2020 2:29 PMHey guys! Since the gloomy Oregon weather is back, for now, it has been so hard to get motivated to do anything! What have you (my classmates) been doing to keep busy? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Ally Sundquist 3/30/2020 11:02 AMMe and my family have always used reusable bags. Having seen the impact of plastic bags to not only pollution but impact on animal welfare has made me realize how important it is to keep our nature areas plastic free. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Research a Wild AnimalWhat interesting facts did you learn about the animal you researched? What are some of your favorite things about this animal?
Ally Sundquist 3/30/2020 11:00 AMI am a hunter. The waterfowl hunting season has recently come to an end and it is important to me to understand the life of ducks and what they do for us. Ducks are also called “waterfowls” because they are normally found in places with water, like marshes and ponds. Hunting is a source of revenue for state and federal conservation programs. Hunters also contribute to wetlands conservation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Ally Sundquist 3/30/2020 10:53 AMI have always spent lots of time outdoors. For me, being outside is a stress reliever. If you are like me, being cooped up inside for long periods of time can tend to make you a little stir crazy. Take time in your day to get some fresh air and enjoy the beautiful nature around you. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Ally Sundquist 3/30/2020 10:49 AMBy connecting with others it helps my mental health to obtain information about how others are doing. It also helps them relieve stress in talking about what is going on in there lives. Its important to stay in contact with people who are important in our lives.
