REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?
Jordan Tatum 4/26/2020 8:10 PMModern food systems must take into account food sovereignty when developing complex agrarian methods, because if we do not sustainably source our food we will end up putting ourselves into a spot with minimal natural resources. It is important for farmers who mass produce their food to use ethical methods of sourcing so we do not overuse the minerals in our dirt as well as other naturally occurring unsustainable means of energy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Jordan Tatum 4/24/2020 8:37 PMIt allows me to know what products I should buy and when/how long they are good for so I can reduce my waste. I used to not really understand them but now I have a better understanding of each and their differences. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Forest-Friendly FoodsHow difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Jordan Tatum 4/24/2020 8:36 PMIt was not that hard because my girlfriend is a vegetarian so there is already a lot of meatless options around me. I have also tried cutting down on dairy and any sort of food that is bad for the environment. I have bad cheese cravings at times but my girlfriend keeps me in check. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Earth Day Action: Share Eco TipsWhat environmentally friendly habit have you most recently implemented? How do you ensure that you are successful in creating or changing a habit?
Jordan Tatum 4/24/2020 8:35 PMI have been religiously using my filtering water bottle and just filling it up with tap water instead of using water bottles. This reduces up to 8+ bottles a day on my end and that is a small dent but it will add up as time passes. I have been consistent by making a routine of filling it up first thing in the morning and making sure that I am staying hydrated through constant usage. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate Stay on the GroundWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Jordan Tatum 4/24/2020 8:21 PMI was planning to go to Chicago to take care of my grandparents and have shelter away from my family, but instead of taking a flight i decided to drive. I have a stick shift so I coasted a lot of the way in order to reduce emissions. Air travel can be avoided by car pooling and driving an Eco-friendly vehicle. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Earth Day Together! Earth Day Action: Write a Love Letter, Poem, or Song to EarthWhat are you grateful for about our planet? Share what you created or your general thoughts of love and gratitude with everyone else!
Jordan Tatum 4/24/2020 8:17 PMHumans have a divine connection to this Earth that constantly take for granted. We are spiritually bounded to our planet, yet we treat it with little to no respect. I am grateful that this beautiful earth created a place for us to live and share with hundreds of thousands of different species. I created a poem for earth day and shared it with my family and girlfriend in hopes for them to rejoice Earth day with me! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Earth Day Action!: Research and Support Local OrganizationsWhy is it important to support local organizations and businesses? How does it help to build a more resilient community?
Jordan Tatum 4/24/2020 8:11 PMLocal businesses tend to ethically source their products when compared to companies that mass produce products on a global scale. Local organizations will get with their communities to make sure that those involved are working to be more sustainable. This aids in creating a more resilient community, and the more communities we have like this the closer we will be to global sustainability. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Jordan Tatum 4/18/2020 1:09 PMIt makes me feel so much more connected to the world around me and makes me feel like I was put on this earth for a purpose. I want that purpose to also serve to the aid of the nature and the world around me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Research Benefits of BiodiversityHow can you encourage biodiversity by your own actions?
Jordan Tatum 4/18/2020 1:08 PMI can make sure to grow strictly native plants in my garden and backyard as well as not use any chemicals to help with my lawn or garden. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Learn about Our OceansWhat is one way in which oceans support your life on Earth? What is one way you can help take care of ocean health with your actions?
Jordan Tatum 4/16/2020 10:37 AMOceans support a major part of my diet because I truly enjoy eating fish especially if it is ethically sourced by a company conscious of the issues were having with the decline in tuna. I plan to reduce my intake of seafood as well as make sure that I am eliminating any trash that is toxic or harmful towards sea life.
