kerstin taylor 4/27/2020 9:09 PMThis is probably my favorite challenge because now im addicted to looking at cute reusable water bottles and want to customize them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Research Benefits of BiodiversityHow can you encourage biodiversity by your own actions?
kerstin taylor 4/27/2020 9:09 PMI show my younger brother different ways he can help the planet. He and I take our walks together and practice environmentally friendly living as best as we can. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Earth Day Together! Earth Day Action: Research and Support Local OrganizationsWhy is it important to support local organizations and businesses? How does it help to build a more resilient community?
kerstin taylor 4/27/2020 9:08 PMOur local organizations depend on us to support them! Without us, there isn't much they can do. Small organizations/businesses shape every society. They bring diversity and cultural influences. We have to support the smaller, along with the larger. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
kerstin taylor 4/26/2020 7:14 PMIt actually was not hard for me to switch to a reusable mug. Instead of daily coffee, I have about 4 cups of green tea a day. Switching to a reusable cup was actually a lot more convenient for me, because now I dont have to wash or dispose of a bunch of different tea cups. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
kerstin taylor 4/26/2020 7:13 PMConnecting with others brings me a lot of comfort because I express how I'm doing and vent about my stress. Realistically I'm doing well so I love to hear from my friends and make sure they are doing okay during these times. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Earth Day Action: Share Eco TipsWhat environmentally friendly habit have you most recently implemented? How do you ensure that you are successful in creating or changing a habit?
kerstin taylor 4/26/2020 7:08 PMThe habit I have been practicing the most is definitely recycling. I did recycle before, but I have been doing it way more frequently and now it's just about a force of habit now and I am very proud of that. It feels good to know that something so small can have a great impact on the environment. I try to remind myself to be mindful of my actions everyday so I can make sure what I'm doing is directly having a negative impact on the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
kerstin taylor 4/23/2020 10:03 PMI did not plant trees but I took up planting flowers. To be more specific I bought two potted plants and I find a lot of joy in growing them. I get excited when I see that they are healthy and growing. I realized that I am becoming in touch with the process of life, and feel connected with God's creation. This reflects my spiritual connection. physically I love the clear air they provide and pretty scent. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
kerstin taylor 4/23/2020 10:00 PMSpending time outdoors allows me to be connected with my surroundings. I truly feel at peace when I'm out in nature just taking a walk. It makes me feel like all of my everyday problems are gone for the time being and I can just enjoy what is around me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Leave No TraceEducator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?
kerstin taylor 4/19/2020 9:49 PMThere isn't a specific area I think I need to work one more than others. However, I think the biggest issue that we all should work on as a whole is reducing how much pollution we put into our environment. I believe this because, climate change is a very big issue today and it is definitely increasing because of human activity. Small measures we can take that would have lasting impacts is, trying to car pool more and practicing the use of renewable energy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Research a Wild AnimalWhat interesting facts did you learn about the animal you researched? What are some of your favorite things about this animal?
kerstin taylor 4/19/2020 9:43 PMThe animal I decided to research was the African lion. I choose this animal because it is my absolute favorite. I learned more about the biology behind them, like their average weight for each gender and mane size. The article I read also talked about the different ways they like to hunt and how much they take pride in being the alphas and extremely strong animals. They are overall so fierce, powerful, brave, loyal, and just so cool. All of the symbolism behind lions is very respectable.
