I will connect with at least 2 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Action Track: Building Resilience

To reduce my consumption and waste and support my community, I will create or support a sharing economy with family, friends, and neighbors.

REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Grace Thomas 4/17/2020 7:32 AMPeople feel responsible for their community when they are connected to improving it! I definitely feel more ownership over the sidewalks and trails in my neighborhood when I've worked to keep them clean. And, it might inspire other neighbors to do the same! -
Grace Thomas 4/14/2020 6:47 AMMonday was a tough day for this challenge because so many of my challenges require going outside! It was very cold out yesterday, and I spent all day inside.-
Melanie Stewart 4/14/2020 7:18 AMI agree! It's harder (for me) to be active inside and I get a lot less steps working from home. Cold and windy days make it challenging and I can tell the difference.

Grace Thomas 4/14/2020 6:44 AMI shared some of my eggs with a neighbor who made Pina Coladas for neighbors last weekend! It was a really nice way to get outside for a walk and connect (from more than 6 feet away!) with a neighbor.-
Melanie Stewart 4/14/2020 7:17 AMEggs for Pina Coladas is a nice trade :)

Grace Thomas 4/08/2020 7:46 PMToday I went on a bike ride instead of watching the TV show I usually watch! Great way to spend more time outside. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Grace Thomas 4/07/2020 7:21 PMMeat is satisfying and tastes good to many people, and it is probably a status symbol as well. Eating more meat increases methane emissions, especially from cows. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Grace Thomas 4/07/2020 7:20 PMScreen time is definitely a detriment to society's mental health. I think that when we spend a lot of time online reading the news it perpetuates climate anxiety and other anxieties. Spending time outdoors with nature helps ground us and appreciate what is happening now, not stress about the problems ahead in an unhealthy way. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Grace Thomas 4/07/2020 7:19 PMIt is hard to spend the day alone in the house with just a couple of people. Calling my parents and my grandma (who are all also social distancing) I think disrupted their routine a little bit. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Support A Sharing EconomyWhat are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?
Grace Thomas 4/07/2020 7:16 PMToday, my neighbor had some extra bottles of shampoo and conditioner. She asked if we could use them, and a member of our household was running out so we accepted. In return we shared half a dozen eggs from our backyard chickens with her. It was nice to depend on each other, and give/receive treats on our doorstep!-
Melanie Stewart 4/08/2020 11:48 AMThere are lots of stressful things going on with COVID, but I love some of the neighbor connections like this! I saw people coloring paper eggs to hang in windows for people to do a neighborhood 'hunt', sharing TP, sewing maks---it's a great reminder of what we can accomplish when we work together.
