Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
Bringing home unique souvenirs from trips you’ve enjoyed is meaningful, and giving people unique gifts from other places is fun. Seek souvenirs and gifts that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
Wildlife
Support Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 20 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Wildlife
Leave No Trace
I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace when doing nature activities alone or with family and friends.
Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Oceans
Advocate For More Packaging Options
Plastic packaging can clog our water ways and the stomachs of sea creatures. I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Oceans
Support Organic Growing Methods
I will buy organic cotton and foods grown without the use of synthetic nitrogen fertilizers.
Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 6 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Oceans
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will host or participate in a trash pickup at a local river or beach that follows the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Oceans
Learn about Our Oceans
I will spend at least 8 minutes learning about how our oceans support life on Earth by producing oxygen, regulating climate, and providing habitat, food, and jobs.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Leave No TraceEducator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?
TitanFall007 TitanFall007 4/07/2020 10:43 AMI feel like a specific area I'd be called to would help animals. I love everything there is about wildlife and other creatures. I think it's an important role for us to help them. We technically invade their space and their homes before we built ours. Not only that, but we're also destroying their home as well. Thus, we should be trying to save animals and not destroy them. Raising awareness could help save a lot of other animal's lives and prevent them from going extinct. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
TitanFall007 TitanFall007 4/07/2020 10:41 AMWhen I use bags, I use bags for groceries like other individuals. I don't think I help too much, I should consider getting a regular reusable bag for groceries. However, what I do, do is reuse grocery bags as garbage bags. I especially use them when I'm in college. This way I can separate the garbage from the things that can be recycled. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Seek Alternative Gifts and SouvenirsHow do your consumption choices affect the health of wildlife and other communities?
TitanFall007 TitanFall007 4/07/2020 10:40 AMIt all depends on what a person decides to do. When they recycle what are they recycling and is it recyclable. Trying to reuse items such as empty milk cartons could be a temporary vase, or use it as a compost bin. Different household items can be used for an alternative healthy and green way. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Support PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators?
TitanFall007 TitanFall007 4/07/2020 10:38 AMIt's important to take care of pollinators because they help pollinate other plants. Without plants we don't get oxygen, without plants we don't get shade, fruit, vegetables and etc.
