Climate

My Carbon Footprint

Use an online tool (links below) to calculate my carbon footprint and see what changes would make the most difference. Each calculator varies, but you'll typically need to gather: utility records, the flight history for the last year, and annual mileage and fuel efficiency of your vehicles.

Climate

Energy savings for the home office

Now that we're all working from home, energy bills could go up. Take some time to evaluate your home office space (even if it's the kitchen table!). Many utilities offer home efficiency kits (LED bulbs, shower heads, etc.) - visit your electric utilities website to see if they offer any of these solutions. The links below will also help you find energy efficiency opportunities in your own space.

I'm not sure how resilient my community is...outside of the courtesy gestures people don't really reach out around here. I could reach out more in effort to help.

I find that helping others can be self therapy in that during the exchange, you can receive answers to your own dilemmas. It's like you're solving the maze together.

The pounds of CO2 emitted on an individual basis is eye opening. I seriously will be considering an electric vehicle on my next purchase.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Food sovereignty can be achieved through farmers markets and backyard gardens. I think it's also pretty cool that some restaurants are implementing rooftop gardens where ever feasible.

It was interesting to find out that none of the dating label phrases were created to determine "food safety". With the exception of infant formula, dating is used for the purpose of quality and most foods are ok to consume past the date label. We should always use 3 senses when evaluating food (sight, smell, touch) to be the determining factor before we consume.
