Wildlife
Research Benefits of Biodiversity
I will spend at least 120 minutes researching how biodiversity positively impacts our world and how the loss of biodiversity harms it.
People
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 5 piece(s) of litter each day while following the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Wildlife
Support Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 120 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Food
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 60 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Forests
Plant Trees
I will plant 1 native tree(s) in my community, public parks, or backyard.
Wildlife
Leave No Trace
I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace when doing nature activities alone or with family and friends.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 1 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Lanya Turner 4/30/2020 2:13 PMMy daughter and I went over material, as she is a food date sheriff! I want her to understand what dates mean to reduce food waste -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Lanya Turner 4/17/2020 2:23 PMNot a surprise. Feeding a family of 4 for three meals a day can get challenging so that we are not wasteful.
