Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect Local, Support Local
We encourage teammates to connect to other local green organizations (including each other) and practice supporting local businesses at least once a week. Re-share a post, order curbside, make a donation to your favorite non-profit, or find a local business to make a purchase from! Let’s keep making St. Louis a greener, healthier, and more sustainable place to live, work, and learn! Have other or more specific actions to add to the Connect Local, Support Local Building Resilience Challenge please email Fbrandt@mobot.org.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Support A Sharing Economy
To reduce my consumption and waste and support my community, I will create or support a sharing economy with family, friends, and neighbors.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 90 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Use Muscle Power
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Advocate For More Food Options
Access to affordable, nutritious food is a food justice issue. I will advocate for local and/or organic food options in my state and/or community.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 3 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Support A Sharing EconomyWhat are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?
Jess Watson 4/30/2020 7:18 AMI work to form cooperatives in so many aspects of my life, and I think it is an underappreciated tool towards sustainability. If we share resources it allows each of us to reduce our consumption and therefore environmental impact. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Jess Watson 4/24/2020 12:55 PMOn a bike we bring chalk, and stop by a neighbor's house to leave a message. We set a goal of a new geocache. We pause halfway for a game of tag in the park and notice mallard mating dances (chase) for the first time. We bring a bag and pick up trash. None of that would have been possible in a car. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Jess Watson 4/24/2020 12:51 PMThe beauty and mystery of the natural world are certainly at the center of the most meaningful experiences of my life, the times when I have felt that I saw myself the most clearly. I notice for myself and for my children, if things are off, I can ask myself "when did we last go outside?" and it is often the root of the problem. One of the most amazing things about the COVID-19 crisis has been spending long periods every day outside with my children- such a gift!
