Fresh Water
Eco-friendly Gardening
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Wildlife
Support Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 60 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 60 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Wildlife
Join & volunteer at Heron Haven
www.heronhaven.org I choose this because for 20 plus years we have lived right by it and get to enjoy its beauty on a daily basis and always attend its yearly event. I have as well as my grown children learned so much about the wetlands, birds, animals and how to preserve nature. I want to help teach others about it as well! Heron Haven is a spring-fed wetland sanctuary, and one of the last oxbow wetlands of the Big Papillion Creek.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Tanette Welsh 4/30/2020 6:50 AMI may be a little late to the game on this one but- at least I found them! I love straws but we know how bad they are! I have been using the silicone and the metal ones, I just don't like them! I just found biodegradable ones made of hay and even the package is biodegradable! They don't get soggy and they don't have a funny taste! Why am I always the last to know? Better late than never! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Eco-friendly GardeningWhat are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.
Tanette Welsh 4/28/2020 8:28 AMAs of a couple years ago I think a lot of our water issues have been resolved when the Papio NRD adopted a new groundwater plan that limits when farmers can use nonorganic fertilizers and how close certain wells can be dug to each other.

Tanette Welsh 4/15/2020 9:11 AMI totally understand the grocery stores at this time with the COVID-19, but it upsets me that we cannot use our recyclable bags. Plus I had groceries delivered and I forgot to check for paper bags and I got plastic ones.
However, my aunt in CB and a group of hers, crochets plastic bags into bed rolls for the homeless. :-)-
Melanie Stewart 4/15/2020 11:15 AMI"m glad you could find a silver lining!

REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Tanette Welsh 4/15/2020 8:59 AMFound out today, it is suggested that the public limit long-term consumption of bass caught from Nebraska waterbodies to eight ounces per week (for adults). Mostly due to high Mercury counts
These advisories are based on sampling taken through 2016. Many compounds were analyzed in the samples.
