Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Fresh Water Dishwasher Efficiency
How can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?

    Bri Wilson's avatar
    Bri Wilson 4/28/2020 8:12 PM
In my household we can make sure to monitor what all we put down the drain, avoid running washers/dishwashers unless they are full, turn off the water when doing things such asbrushing out teeth and other simple things of the sort.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Fresh Water Water-Friendly Beauty Products
Beyond what does or doesn't come out of the tap at home, how do your choices affect freshwater locally and globally?

    Bri Wilson's avatar
    Bri Wilson 4/28/2020 8:07 PM
By chosing to complete this challenge I have realized that my choices may contaminate freshwater locally, and that many people fail to realize their impact. Deciding to stray away from these harsh chemicals in brands allows for cleaner water in local areas on a small scale but can only be broadened if everyone is willing to make a difference.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Forests Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

    Bri Wilson's avatar
    Bri Wilson 4/28/2020 8:01 PM
The only inconveniences I see is is that you have to remember to wash the mug, bring it inside with you, and have to lug it around all day. Thos minor hasstles are well worth the impact we could make by simply switching to reusable cups in general.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    People Volunteer in my Community
How does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?

    Bri Wilson's avatar
    Bri Wilson 4/28/2020 7:55 PM
Volunteering allows you to get closer to your community and makes it feel as if you actually have a role rather than simply just being a non-moving part who resides there.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Research a Wild Animal
What interesting facts did you learn about the animal you researched? What are some of your favorite things about this animal?

    Bri Wilson's avatar
    Bri Wilson 4/21/2020 10:59 AM
I researched fox squirrels. I learned that this animal had flexible ankle joints which benefits them when climbing down large trees. The fox squirrel is has the largest population out of all the other tree squirrels.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Research Benefits of Biodiversity
How can you encourage biodiversity by your own actions?

    Bri Wilson's avatar
    Bri Wilson 4/21/2020 10:47 AM
Help by cleaning up local communities, beaches and reserves where animals reside. Also providing food, water, and shelter is a good initiative to take.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Bri Wilson's avatar
    Bri Wilson 4/21/2020 10:31 AM
Having this knowledge allows me to be less wasteful. Most people see a sell by date and assume if they are eating it after that point it is bad, which is not the case. Use by dates fall more so into that category, however there are conservation precautions that be taken to extend those periods.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

    Bri Wilson's avatar
    Bri Wilson 4/21/2020 10:30 AM
People can walk to close places rather than driving, purchase energy efficient cars, as well as purchase other appliances that are energy efficient. Eating locally is also a big step a single person can make as a part of fulfilling their civic duty.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Earth Day Together! Earth Day Action: Research and Support Local Organizations
Why is it important to support local organizations and businesses? How does it help to build a more resilient community?

    Bri Wilson's avatar
    Bri Wilson 4/21/2020 10:27 AM
Local organizations and businesses prosper off of the local people. They are built solely off of the people in the surrounding areas. During this time they are struggling as they aren't getting the full support big corporations are. By supporting your own local businesses you will build a community that is helping each other grow and prosper.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate Stay on the Ground
What was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?

    Bri Wilson's avatar
    Bri Wilson 4/21/2020 10:25 AM
Due to coronavirus, we decided to drive up to my sisters house rather than flying. I have never been in a plane personally, so continuing to carpool and drive long distances in fuel efficient cars will allow me to prevent future air travel.
