Yvonne's actions
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 5 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Yvonne Wilson 4/30/2020 6:12 AMI know that I am just starting to be consistent with my walking, now I will keep going so I will keep on the healthy path. -
Yvonne Wilson 4/29/2020 6:26 AMThis was harder to do than I thought. I really enjoyed the time outside walking, but it took me blocking off specific time to accomplish this goal -
Yvonne Wilson 4/27/2020 10:00 AMI have a 92 year old aunt in Grand Island and we are going to Face Time her tomorrow. She is very upbeat and is doing well.-
Melanie Stewart 4/28/2020 7:37 AMThis is great! I'm sure she will appreciate being able to see you while you chat. I'm glad she's feeling upbeat--that helps a lot!

Yvonne Wilson 4/22/2020 6:10 AMI made special cards and sent them in the mail to let them know someone cares -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Research a Wild AnimalWhat interesting facts did you learn about the animal you researched? What are some of your favorite things about this animal?
Yvonne Wilson 4/21/2020 7:41 AMI learned that pollinators do not have to just be the bees. I had a 45 minute presentation on the habitat for butterflies from the Hitchcock Center in Iowa. I learned how I can start a pollinator garden in my own backyard, even in the city. I am not held to one type of pollinator, I can attract several species. Some butterflies will head south for the winter, but other butterflies stick it out in Nebraska and need plants and coverage to survive here. The yellow swallow tail sticks it out and hibernates in Nebraska. I would love to have the coverage for them to make it through the fall and winter in my backyard.-
Melanie Stewart 4/21/2020 12:23 PMThis is great! I was also surprised at how many insects/pollinators hibernate here. I've also recently learned to wait to clean up my garden beds to help them---no only leaving plants in the winter, but waiting until its consistently over 50 before cutting anything back so they have a protective place when the temps drop. Now I leave stems behind for carpenter bees too!

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Yvonne Wilson 4/21/2020 7:36 AMThe wind was blowing and it was a really nice sunrise. I was happy to see the sunrise and I feel better getting up earlier to get my day started with exercise. -
Yvonne Wilson 4/21/2020 7:34 AMThis challenge is by far the most pleasant and easiest to do. I enjoy just a little chat. I really enjoyed chatting with my 94 year old aunt. She really was happy to chat with someone. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Yvonne Wilson 4/14/2020 8:02 AMI found it very easy to just slip a little text to someone. They might reply right away or they might reply later in the day. I just feel more connected to my friends at the Quilt group by giving them a text to encourage them to do a project or start a new quilt.
