My neighborhood group recently spent the afternoon picking up trash!  And I'm signed up for the Anacostia Watershed Cleanup which is happening later this year.

Food Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
How does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?

Food sovereignty is all about encouraging local food systems and local farmers.  We cannot continue to dump cheap grain onto developing nations as it has and will continue to destroy local economies.

Action Track: Building Resilience Support Pollinators
Why is it important to take care of pollinators?

More than 1/3 of the worlds crop production is dependent on bee pollination.  We have been in 'partnership' with honeybees since early recorded history so a world without pollinators will be bleak.

How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?

It has been such a relief to spend a little bit of time outdoors now that we are forced inside everyday.  I finally got to Scotts Run and enjoyed hiking with the best trained dog ever.

    Forests Forest-Friendly Foods
How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?

I recently gave up coffee for about 2 months because I was drinking far too much with the added benefit of making more sustainable choices.  I've had about 3 cups of coffee since February and I'm lucky enough to get it from my friends roastery who sources their beans sustainably.  Chocolate is the next thing to tackle so I'll start by looking for the highest quality shade-grown Rainforest Alliance Certified cocoa.

    Oceans Learn about Our Oceans
What is one way in which oceans support your life on Earth? What is one way you can help take care of ocean health with your actions?

    Tom Yost's avatar

It was crazy to learn that the ocean has absorbed so much additional heat and CO2 over what we had initially projected.  Plus 500 million people rely on healthy coral reefs for their main protein sources but they have been in rapid decline since 1998.
