Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate Use Public Transit
How has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

Having access to a local bus route system throughout my life has enabled me to appreciate public transportation.

What are you grateful for about our planet? Share what you created or your general thoughts of love and gratitude with everyone else!

I am grateful for life itself. The Earth is incredible and beautiful. Literally everything any plant, animal, or creature needs to survive is provided for be the Earth. Food, water, variety in nearly everything, and some of the most beautiful things ever seen were created from and for the Earth.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

    Crystal Young's avatar
    Crystal Young 4/28/2020 4:45 PM
I could protect the environment by traveling less frequently. I often take drives, for no other reason than to drive, and would like to cut down the amount of time I spend in the car.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

    Crystal Young's avatar
    Crystal Young 4/28/2020 4:44 PM
My usage is about the same as others in my local community, however, I would be significantly happier if the amount of energy I used came from solar energy. That is an investment I am going to make in the future. I also plan on cutting down my electricity usage by turning off lights when I leave the room and only washing clothes or dishes when the machine is full.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Crystal Young's avatar
    Crystal Young 4/28/2020 4:40 PM
Ocean pollution concerns me the most because the use of plastic products has a negative impact on the various animals and creatures that call the ocean home, which in turn, directly negatively affects humans as well.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Oceans Learn about Our Oceans
What is one way in which oceans support your life on Earth? What is one way you can help take care of ocean health with your actions?

    Crystal Young's avatar
    Crystal Young 4/28/2020 4:39 PM
Oceans support life on Earth because around 50-70% of our oxygen comes from the oceans. People need oxygen to live, so ultimately we need the ocean. I can advocate for more earth-friendly resources and less ocean pollution and plastic products.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Fresh Water Eco-friendly Gardening
What are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.

    Crystal Young's avatar
    Crystal Young 4/28/2020 4:37 PM
Access would be the most prominent water concern in my area because myself and the people who live around me depend on well water and sewage systems for our water.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Earth Day Together! Earth Day Action: Research and Support Local Organizations
Why is it important to support local organizations and businesses? How does it help to build a more resilient community?

    Crystal Young's avatar
    Crystal Young 4/28/2020 4:35 PM
It's important to support local, in general, because supporting your local community members helps the community itself grow. Instead of giving away our money to big businesses, we should invest our money in our communities so that we can help support each other.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Earth Day Together! Earth Day Action: Share Eco Tips
What environmentally friendly habit have you most recently implemented? How do you ensure that you are successful in creating or changing a habit?

    Crystal Young's avatar
    Crystal Young 4/28/2020 4:34 PM
I have started learning how to grow and plant my own plants, including trees, flowers, and learning to grow my own food.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Volunteer in my Community
How does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?

    Crystal Young's avatar
    Crystal Young 4/28/2020 4:32 PM
Volunteering in my community allows me to meet the various people who also call it home while helping them in whatever way possible, so that we can give them a reason to smile while making their lives easier, even amongst this current crisis.
