It’s important to know that your food is coming from a sustainable resource. Many animals are over hunted/ fished, and are going extinct in parts of the world and are having a major effect on the population of other animals that rely on them for food.

Talking to people, even if it's over the phone or zoom helps me keep in touch during these times. It's not as good as talking to them in person, but it still helps a lot and I'm happy that I get to talk to my friends

    Fresh Water Conserve Toilet Water
What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

I live in a place that floods whenever it rains. I also live near a sewage treatment plant. When hurricane Sandy hit, the treatment plant was destroyed and had to be rebuilt. This affected the waterways and the town.

I would like to see more people have duel flushing toilets  so you can control how much water is used. People can try to take quicker showers and shower only when necessary instead of habitually.

I don’t know what the answer is, but we have to stop dumping sewage waste into the oceans. People need to stop using chemicals on their lawns that run into the water system. Learning to wash dishes without the sink running or using an HE dishwasher would be great.

There are so many ways to make a little difference everyday that would lead to big changes going forward.

April is going by fast and I’ve got a bunch of challenges to complete. The pandemic has definitely been a busy time for me so I haven’t had as much time off to do fun nature stuff. I will do my best to complete my challenges!

      Hi Julia!
      Cute puppy!
I'm Sofia, and I'm the University of Minnesota Department of Sustainability intern this semester! As earth month and the eco challenge wrap up, I'm reaching out to some of the team members who have been extremely active throughout the challenge, in hopes of writing a little blog post for the Institute on the Environment about the participants! You personally have one of the highest scores out of all of the eco challenge participants! It would be amazing to start a little email exchange with you, to chat about who you are, why you've been so active, and what the eco challenge has brought to your life this month! Other topics of discussion are welcomed, of course. My email is fick0054@umn.edu. If you'd like to contact me, that's great! If not, and you'd prefer I contact you, I can do that! Just reply to this comment with your email. If you don't want to period, that's totally okay as well! Keep me posted, Both the earth and I are proud of your hard work this month:)

I learned many cool facts about polar bears such as that polar bears’ fur is actually transparent even though it appears white. They also are classified as marine mammals because they spend most of their lives in the water.

On my Brant survey yesterday I saw a bunch of other cool birds- one included a glossy ibis which was a new find for me!
