  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Oceans Say No to Plastic Straws
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

I try to buy in bulk when possible so that I can either reuse the plastic bag or use paper bags instead. I steer clear of bagged vegetables and reuse my own bags. I normally don't get coffee lids but since I'm now walking my dogs when I stop for coffee, I have to so I don't spill. Luckily the tops that i"m getting are compostable and I am composting at a community collection site!

The part that I'm struggling with is buying clothes during the quarantine because they come in multiple plastic bags. I am trying to be more thoughtful about what I purchase and if I really need to buy it right now.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

I think they used to have something that would show how your energy use compares to others around you but I don't really see that option now. I'm going to do some research to see if there is a third party app or something that will track this.

Action Track: Building Resilience Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

We lose connection with our world when we are indoors.  the energies of the earth give us vibrancy and connection physically and spiritually.

How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

In a situation of hunger, we need to reconsider the expiration dates, accepting use by dates and beyond.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Paul May's avatar
    Paul May 4/30/2020 6:42 AM
We were meant to not eat meat, as in the creation story.  Less meat helps us to return to that ideal situation
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

If I don't have a reusable bag, I can carry items.  Pockets are wonderful
