BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

    A haiku poem to Earth:
         All that is, is all
There is nothing more, nor less
         All that is, is us
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Leave No Trace
Educator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?

Since working in the stormwater unit I feel really strongly against littering right now. I think it is because it is something so preventable but yet humans feel the need to just throw things on the street.

I can't understand why people continue to litter. When I was a kid in the 1970s I thought the crying Indian commercial would make people stop littering. Sadly, it didn't.  {:-(

    People Connect While Social Distancing
How does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?

I am extrovert by nature and not being able to see people in person has been really hard for me. But it allows me to connect with people who I love the most and still get emotional support from them. It also allows for me to be there for others if I can not be there in person. We are social beings and we need to be there for each other in this time of need.

Today I "trespassed" onto a neighbor's front yard to pick-up some trash I've been seeing there for the past month. What I found was the remains of a broken-up styrofoam cooler box. The pieces appeared to have been stuck in the bushes for a long time, as the pieces were very crumbly when I picked them up. I didn't tally-up the individual pieces I collected but counted them all as one item.

Today our NJ Watershed Ambassadors held their educational Earth Day "Take Our Kids To Work Day" activities virtually. There was a water cycle lesson & game, an Enviroscape watershed demonstration, a nature-based yoga class, a presentation on pollinators & Jersey-friendly yards, and a benthic macroinvertebrate identification activity. Hey...I even managed to get some work done between sessions! ;-)

Action Track: Building Resilience Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

This quote by Rachel Carlson I love so much as the outdoors is such a huge mood booster. During this time being able to go outside and embrace nature when I can’t go to the park is so important.
