REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Joe O'Shaughnessy 4/25/2020 7:09 AMI read that 83% of Americans have prematurely thrown out a food item based on the sell by date. Food past this date is perfectly healthy to eat.
I also didn’t know dates on food are not federally mandated (with the exception of baby food). The “rules” are up to each state and often only established by the company providing the dates. I’m going to stick to the smell test from now on. Got to stop trusting those dates as they don’t tell us anything about the safety of food. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Melissa Lewis 4/22/2020 1:33 PMFrom what I learned about the differences between best by, sell by, and use by dates, I can make more informed decisions on purchasing and consuming. I believe that I can avoid trashing some food that is still actually good enough to consume past its sell by/best by dates.
