Food waste is something I think about every day. It takes a lot of planning and work to make sure we only buy what we need, and eat what we buy. But we work on it every day!!

Fresh Water Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Using the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?

I refuse to buy bottled water - I drink tap water and use a filter at home. I make my own sparkling water at home - I won't even by bottled/canned sparkling water.

Food packaging and the carbon footprint of transporting food from field to processing plant to distribution center and to the retail food chain in addition to all the plastic packaging waste for 'convenience foods'.  Focusing on purchasing from local farmers  markets and minimize pre-processed foods.

I'm going to get a hybrid car and do more to drive less. Traveling is my biggest contribution and I can do more to lessen my footprint.

      • I got a Kia Niro plug-in hybrid last year and so happy I did.  I still use some fossil fuel but so much less!  it's a good feeling

There is a small local bakery near me called Wildflour Bread. They bake the bread in brick ovens and it is delicious. They have a garden where they grow organic vegetables, fruits, and herbs that they use in the bread and scones they make. I made a trip and followed the careful protocol they have set up for the pandemic. I thanked them for continuing to make bread and they thanked me for supporting them!

I learned about bees and how critical they are to the environment and growing food. I also learned that the average bee will make only 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime. We need a lot of bees if we want to continue to have honey! Honey is not just for eating - it has antiseptic properties and was historically used as a dressing for wounds and a first aid treatment for burns and cuts. I love watching bees as they go flower to flower and there are a lot of wildflowers in my yard right now :-)

Have you checked out the Google Doodle for Earth Day? I did and was caught up in pollinating flowers and learning about bees. It's pretty cool.

I'm concerned about all the plastic we use - everything is wrapped in plastic and there are little plastic disposable bits everywhere. It concerns me because of fish and animals eating it thinking its food and then starving to death. It's also getting into our bodies and who knows what the impact is. I'm trying to limit my purchases and avoid plastic as much as I can.

By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
