Started the Challenge late but I'm thinking I'd like to continue with some of my new habits, feeling good about doing good. Thanks all.

Didn't do research on this but I imagine that more developed countries have greater access to meat products and meat is probably more affordable due to the shear volume of available product. We know that the bigger the animals we consume the more space we need to raise them. This means taking away land that could support other activities and...

It definitely a good way to connect with your community and get to know people. I got an itch to volunteer while quarantined and was having difficulty figuring out how, but got connected to mentor architecture students from home. I likely will not start this until next month.

I joined the Eco-Challenge to support the YGH team, Yes, peer pressure can be a good thing. I chose challenges based on issues that interest me and actions that I felt I could accomplish with little to moderate effort. It's encouraging to know that it doesn't take a complete life style makeover to start making a difference. The best part of...

I still haven't found the right tool with help with seafood selection. Seafood Watch only lists very high end grocery stores in their app which does not make this food accessible to everyone. Weirdly, they only list Red Lobster for sustainable seafood restaurants. Would like an app or website to give me more options. Its a little cumbersome to...

At the WOHES Conference I had a session on sustainable food options from Default Veg, Factory Farming Awareness Coalition and SOU which was enlightening. There are so many issues with resource acquisition and allocation in wealthy countries. Making plant based options the default is such a good idea. Have started trying alternatives for dairy,...

This does not surprise me. We have struggled with this and still do, but have found the app mealime which helps me plan meals ahead and has helped with waste. Have been using it for the last few months and have actually stuck with it. It keeps me from getting bored with my own cooking and organizes my grocery list which is key. I also just...

Absolutely! My dog needs walks everyday and it benefits us both to experience the outdoors. There are people I see and chat with on a somewhat regular basis while walking the dog which is really nice.

Learned about my virtual water footprint (eating meat is my biggest sin!) and how my actions affect the millions of species on this planet. Encouraged by seeing how small steps can make reduce a big footprint!
  • April 21 at 7:18 PM
Making our human footprint smaller means choosing sustainable options; avoiding food and products that require large areas of land be cleared for their growth; beef and palm oil are two major culprits, Support policies that favor preserving nature over development.
