People
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 2 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
Bringing home unique souvenirs from trips you’ve enjoyed is meaningful, and giving people unique gifts from other places is fun. Seek souvenirs and gifts that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
Wildlife
Leave No Trace
I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace when doing nature activities alone or with family and friends.
Fresh Water
Dishwasher Efficiency
I will scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher and only run the dishwasher when it’s full.
Fresh Water
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 8 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Food
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 2 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 2 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Louis Bianco 4/08/2020 6:14 AMi know this, you also need to learn what food never expires like honey and rice -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Leave No TraceEducator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?
Louis Bianco 4/08/2020 6:13 AMi have always practiced this. I hike a lot. what I come in with I leave with. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Seek Alternative Gifts and SouvenirsHow do your consumption choices affect the health of wildlife and other communities?
Louis Bianco 4/08/2020 6:12 AMwildlifes land is being consumed at an alarming rate! when I was young growing up in NJ I only saw gypsy moths, couple deer, racoons, squirrels, an occasional rabbit, hawk and opossum.
now i see wild turkey, bear, chipmunk, turkey vultures, ticks, deer, foxes, and many other wildlife I have never seen and some have disappeared like gypsy moth, racoons and others have been increased like chipmunk, rabbits, and deer.
this is because of loss of habit and the rise in ticks is from no pesticides being sprayed anymore. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Louis Bianco 4/08/2020 6:03 AMjust having conversation is important especially when you live alone. others may also be experiencing the same loneliness. you don't know what other people are dealing with and they may just need a friendly conversation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Use a Reusable Water BottleUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Dishwasher EfficiencyHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Louis Bianco 4/08/2020 5:58 AMthat food could be used for a vacation or for fitness activities or for my dogs,
