Pete's actions
Wildlife
Build a Bird Feeder
We built a bird feeder to help out our local population.
Food
Build a Worm Bin
Our family just planted a garden and are looking for some good fertilizer. So we're hiring worms! Please let them know to apply at jobsatcwgarden.com.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Climate
Stay on the Ground
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Fresh Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 1 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Use Muscle Power
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 60 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Pete Chism-Winfield 4/27/2020 6:36 AMHere's our weekend project, worm bin for the garden! Fun :) -
Pete Chism-Winfield 4/13/2020 7:47 AMI do think that the practice of having everyone work from home will allow us the opportunity to significantly reduce our impacts. Imagine if a significant number of us at BPS worked half in the office and half from home and shared work stations! We could reduce commutes, reduce our footprint, reduce costs to the City (while incurring a little cost bump at home). The impacts could be huge, maybe it's time we get on board with a new way of doing things... I'm totally up for shaking things up even after this has passed :) -
Pete Chism-Winfield 4/13/2020 7:43 AMSorry it took me a while to get this up and running. Thank you Harmonee for keeping this going, I'm high fiving you :) This is a good reminder that even when life changes so drastically, we still need to keep our eyes on the prize!
