  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

Turn off computers, turn down the thermostat, use LEF lights, unplug appliances that aren’t being used all the time, take shorter showers, hang clothes to dry instead of using dryer all the time

    Wildlife Support Pollinators
Why is it important to take care of pollinators?

    Deborah Clevenger's avatar
    Deborah Clevenger 4/30/2020 5:05 AM
I learned that pollinators are necessary because it would be difficult to acquire certain minerals and vitamins that we need to stay healthy. I also learned that we need pollinators to ensure the next generation of plants are produces
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Deborah Clevenger's avatar
    Deborah Clevenger 4/30/2020 4:54 AM
Being more aware, and interpreting the date depends on the type of food you're eating or things you are drinking, also pay attention to how you store food. Doesn't necessarily mean food is bad after a date on the label. Just be more conscious.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Research a Wild Animal
What interesting facts did you learn about the animal you researched? What are some of your favorite things about this animal?

    Deborah Clevenger 4/29/2020 1:34 PM
I learned that there are 3 species of Elephants, they are the world's largest animal, their tusks never stop growing, they eat for 12-18 hours, the dig waterholes, create footpaths and change the landscape around them. After they bathe in the river or swamps they throw mud and sand over themselves to protect their skin from the sun. I also didn't realize that Asian Elephants are endangered and African Elephants are vulnerable.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Leave No Trace
Educator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?

    Deborah Clevenger's avatar
    Deborah Clevenger 4/27/2020 1:12 PM
Because I have a love for elephants the area that I would be drawn to would be the  African Ecosystem. They help the ecosystem, they are essential to their ecosystem, they help other species and so much more
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    People Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

    Deborah Clevenger's avatar
    Deborah Clevenger 4/27/2020 1:02 PM
Yes, Rachel Carson's statement definitely rings true to me. A culture that spends most of their time are lacking on natural sunlight, fresh air, wellness. It also can affect their social skills, ques and overall health. I personally know someone who does this and it causes anxiety, social anxiety, a crazy sleep schedule.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Fresh Water Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Using the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?

    Deborah Clevenger's avatar
    Deborah Clevenger 4/22/2020 2:13 PM
I can advocate by researching more. finding other groups that are advocating for the same thing, set goals for myself in regard to what I want to achieve and support and learn more about the movement and then become involved. I am already a member of the WWF who have ground breaking initiatives as well as partnering with companies like Coca-Cola to help make a difference. .
