    If you are like me, you may be choosing to get delivered groceries during this time for safety reasons.  I found that starting an early conversation with my shopper about limiting single-use plastic went a long way and she went the extra effort to not use them when most delivery grocery shoppers do!  It was a simple conversation and made a big difference.  She definitely got a good tip :)

    What efforts would help food insecure regions have access to local, seasonal foods?

    There are so many of them; one of them is transportation advocacy and another is partnerships with local farms to collect donations to food and housing shelters.  My counseling center, for example, has weekly "farmer's markets" available to the community--and they serve many folks below a living wage. During these times, though, making all public transit free I think has been really helpful in this regard.

    So much!  I think one of the most political choices you can make is where you spend your dollar.  I have been thinking of what this means for my stimulus check where I have the privilege of not needing it to pay my bills at least right now.  I think I am going to give mine to queer/trans youth (or adults) experiencing housing or food insecurity during these times.

    Yes!  I absolutely love biking around--it makes me so happy.  It is odd now, though, how distant people are while riding and how I don't feel comfortable taking transit right now.  However, I do typically like to take transit and support an extremely important facet of increasing access to goods, services, jobs, etc. in the community.

    If anything, this challenge is making me realize how many ways COVID affects all aspects of our lives.  The food access advocacy I did (from home!) was a lot about food desserts.  I come from Detroit so I didn't realize how many there were here in Minnesota too, take a look: https://northstarpolicy.org/addressing-minnesotas-food-deserts-new-grocery-store

    I just bought a compost tumbler so I am hoping to use that and then use the compost in my garden.  In general, I find that I have significantly less trash when I compost and have to empty my trash a lot less.  The biggest challenge is that I still have a lot of animal poop and that is not compostable in Minneapolis at least!  I do want to look into more eco-friendly kitty litter, though....

    It's funny because during COVID, I think there is a lot more both acceptance, understanding and support for people to do this.  I simply had to say that I would like to instead do this virtually because that made me more comfortable and everyone agreed.  I do think, however, this will change after COVID and I need to think about how I can continue this practice even after the broad-spectrum support for virtual meetings/presentations is gone.

    The bees!  And butterflies!  And, ideally it also helps educate your neighbors on the importance and will encourage more native and pollinator gardening in the city.

    I planted some of the pollinators from seed and used natural soil/fertilizer today!  It was hard to find some of the seeds because so many people are buying them out, but there are still some available at a local seed library operated outside of someone's house at 3117 Oakland (Minneapolis) if anyone is still looking!
