Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 2 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Fresh Water
Water-Friendly Beauty Products
Avoid beauty products with micro beads or harsh chemicals that will feed into the ground and your water supply.
Forests
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will replace or remove the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products in my current diet that are known to contribute to deforestation.
Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
People
Pick Up the Phone
I will make 1 phone call(s) per day to a public official or company to advocate for planet-friendly and/or environmentally just policies.
Food
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Joey Gruber 3/31/2020 6:40 AMWith my knowledge on these different labels, I am able to utilize the products that have these labels to the best of my abilities. Furthermore, I think the best part about my expanded knowledge is that I can share the information with others, so everyone has a better understanding of these labels and their purposes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Joey Gruber 3/24/2020 10:04 AMI try to always be prepared on typical single use alternatives. However, I occasionally get a straw in my drink before I can ask, and I sometimes forget my coffee cup. I would like to be better about bringing my reusable coffee cup and being better about saying no in a polite way. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Forest-Friendly FoodsHow difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Joey Gruber 3/24/2020 10:02 AMIt was very interesting to see how impacted we are by these products. I still own these products, but after full use, I will not purchase these products, and I will try to only buy products the positively contribute to our environment in this area.
