Oceans

Say No to Plastic Straws

An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.

    People Keep My Community Clean
How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

It can connect me in the way that others might see myself picking up litter which since we all have so much free time right now, then they might go pick up litter as well.

Oceans Say No to Plastic Straws
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

I used to use plastic coffee cups with plastic straws on a basis from a place such as Starbucks. Now I have purchased metal straws to fill any plastic straws I use as well as I purchased a reusable Starbucks cup to use when I go there.

    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

The amount suprises me, but I was aware that people do waste a lot of food either because they aren't meal planning and don't use certain items before they go bad. This money could be going towards their other bills they have to pay.
