Action Track: Earth Day Together!
Earth Day Action: Share Eco Tips
Through social media or on the Earth Day Ecochallenge feed, I will share my favorite environmentally friendly habit with my friends, even if it’s not an Earth Day action.
People
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Fresh Water
Eco-friendly Gardening
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Food
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 6 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Forests
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Forests
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will replace or remove the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products in my current diet that are known to contribute to deforestation.
Wildlife
Leave No Trace
I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace when doing nature activities alone or with family and friends.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Katherine Horine 4/29/2020 12:11 PMMy sister and I began this journey to living a more sustainable life after both of us worked as scuba instructors and guides all over the world. It is much easier to change behavior when the issue has impacted you personally and also when you have someone else to do it with. I have loved watching how the outdoor and sustainability communities have come together even while we are remote! -
Katherine Horine 4/22/2020 3:46 PMHappy Earth Day! I try to live like every day is earth day, but it is exciting when we all celebrate together. Today I shared a few of my go to 'tools' to live a more sustainable life on social media. Something I am trying to cultivate is not only taking actions and making changes myself, but also sharing that process with my friends and family to create a community around it. Hope you are all staying safe and well!
