Say No to Plastic Straws

An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Oceans Support Organic Growing Methods
It is often said that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” What is your response to that statement?

There is no reason why the world cannot be fed with only organic food if we reduce our food waste. I have been purchasing grocery boxes of misshapen food that cannot be sold to the supermarkets. It tastes the same and saves money
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Oceans Say No to Plastic Straws
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

I have purchased glass straws that can be re-used. There are in addition to the stainless steel water bottle I already had.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social Distancing
How does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?

In times when we are not able to leave the house it is important to reach out to others. I certainly appreciate this when others reach out to me
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

Swapped out pulled pork for jackfruit and hardly noticed the difference
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate Stay on the Ground
What was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?

    Adam Jeffery's avatar
    Adam Jeffery 4/04/2020 6:29 PM
I would have flown to Orlando for a store handover but we were able to do this for via video conferencing. This save flying over 2000 miles for me and multiple others
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
