NT's actions
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Fresh Water
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
People
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 5 piece(s) of litter each day while following the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Food
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
NT Lester 4/29/2020 12:53 PMKale stalks have taken on great importance. I'm making a special compost from kitchen scraps -- no yard waste in this little spot -- so that I can make a super healthy compost. I want to use it in flower pots and my perennial flower beds. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
NT Lester 4/20/2020 2:00 PMFour. Four out of four pieces of trash that I picked up were plastic.
Five. Five out of five pieces of trash were plastic.
Six.
Seven.
Eight oh wait.
Eureka!

REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
NT Lester 4/16/2020 12:21 PMInstead of passing through the landscape, protected inside the metal and glass of my car,
I move through the landscape on my own two feet when I go outdoors. I look around, I listen, I experience warmth or cold, I smell the air -- these things tell me where I really am. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
