    Food Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

Kale stalks have taken on great importance. I'm making a special compost from kitchen scraps -- no yard waste in this little spot -- so that I can make a super healthy compost. I want to use it in flower pots and my perennial flower beds.

Four. Four out of four pieces of trash that I picked up were plastic.
Five. Five out of five pieces of trash were plastic.
    Six.
    Seven.
    Eight oh wait.
    Eureka!
    Styrofoam.

How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?

Instead of passing through the landscape, protected inside the metal and glass of my car,
I move through the landscape on my own two feet when I go outdoors. I look around, I listen, I experience warmth or cold, I smell the air -- these things tell me where I really am.

    Wildlife Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
