This has been a great challenge! A fun way of raising awareness and driving personal behavior shifts.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Despite living in the NW, we face droughts each summer, and we have a high focus on storm water run-off.  To help, as I've helped friends put in new landscaping and added more at my own property, I continue to utilized native plants, and those that are known for low water needs.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

my utilization is very low due to single person household.  However, there are behavioral shifts that I can make by watching use of lights, unplugging appliances, watching long showers, etc.

Challenge has been good.  While I try to live earth friendly all of the time, the challenge has been very effective at helping me learn more and focus on my personal actions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

I typically use a reusable bag, or carry out by hand. If I do need to use a store bag, then I ask for paper, which I then use to collect my household recyclables and it's recycled as well.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Support Pollinators
Why is it important to take care of pollinators?

    Jerris Marr's avatar

Pollinators are a critical part of the ecosystem and without them , many aspects of the food chain would be adversely impacted.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Research a Wild Animal
What interesting facts did you learn about the animal you researched? What are some of your favorite things about this animal?

Urban deer - it's intriguing to me that in many suburban areas deer are adapting to cohabiting with people.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Research Benefits of Biodiversity
How can you encourage biodiversity by your own actions?

    Jerris Marr 4/16/2020 7:58 AM
In the areas that I live I try to promote and support natural habitat by retaining or planting native plants, and supporting animal/insect life by planting/installing items that promote safe habitat.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Fresh Water Dishwasher Efficiency
How can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?

    Jerris Marr's avatar
    Jerris Marr 4/16/2020 7:56 AM

Basic awareness, conscious decisions to behave differently and choose alternative solutions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Fresh Water Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Using the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?

    Jerris Marr's avatar
    Jerris Marr 4/16/2020 7:55 AM
The most simple approach is by not fueling the bottled water demand and supply chain.  By increasing my personal awareness and discipline I have been able to significantly reduce and nearly eliminate my use of water bottles.
