  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

I agree with this statement.  We need to connect with natural beauty.  Any outdoor activity, such as running, taking a hike, gardening, or walking the dog, are necessary to connect with nature and recognize its wonder.  Spending time indoors is fine, but people need to get outside to feel like they are a part of something bigger than their homes.

How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

Walking or riding a bike helps me to engage my local community on a closer scale.  I see neighbors, stop, and talk briefly.  While in a motor vehicle, I am enclosed and often alone with my own thoughts.  Walking and running allows me to see members of my local community and connect.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Volunteer in my Community
How does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?

I am more engaged with my community by volunteering, and am more invested.  By volunteering, I have built personal connections with younger people and our environment.  With these connections, I have a greater interest in the well-being of my community.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social Distancing
How does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?

Yes, it helps.  I appreciate hearing experiences from other perspectives.  I learn about different means other people employ to help others within their communities.  I empathize with similar and dissimilar situations and impacts felt that may be greater than my own.
