Amanda's actions
People
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 20 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Fresh Water
Dishwasher Efficiency
I will scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher and only run the dishwasher when it’s full.
Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
People
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 10 piece(s) of litter each day while following the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.

REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Amanda Nash 4/07/2020 11:20 AMBy picking up trash around my community, I'm learning about what items are being thrown/blown away which helps me understand where efforts are needed to minimize this. Cigarette butts, plastic bags, and cups have been the majority of the items I have picked up. These are items are used everyday, so this tells me the community needs to do more to prevent such items being so easily accessible and also being aware of where these items go once their 1 time use is over. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Dishwasher EfficiencyHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
Amanda Nash 4/07/2020 5:46 AMWhen it comes to rinsing dishes, it's too easy to just let the water run, So similar to how kids learn to wash their hands long enough, I have started to give myself a time limit for how long I spend cleaning off my dishes.
