I live in Milwaukee and many homes have lead pipes, including my neighborhood. A majority of those homes are found in economically disadvantaged areas of Milwaukee. Some families are not able to afford the required cost-share with the City of Milwaukee when Milwaukee requires a replacement of the lead service line. Frankly, Milwaukee has not done enough to address this issue, they ave been extremely slow to act. Giving out free water filters is not enough. Lining pipes in the street is not enough.

Before the "safer at home" declaration I began carrying stainless steel cocktail straws along with my regular sized straws. I have a nice locally handmade zippered pouch specifically for my reusable straws that I carry around in my purse.

Should we have a small pollinator garden in our backyard? I know the Zoo already has one across the railroad tracks but it might be nice to have one of our own. My cup plants are starting to come up and I'd be more than happy to donate some. I may even have some milkweed to transplant this season.

      Hi Julie,

Victory Garden is installing four beds in late May. We'll be planting both veggies and pollinators, and Molly will be using them for her Reggio Emilia class. Anyone is welcome to incorporate into their curricula as well! Horticulture is working with our Teens Grow Greens apprentice to advise on what exactly to plant, but let Ana know what you have because you might have what we need!

If we are going to have raised beds in our backyard at work, we should look into composting there also. We may not be able to do it but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Yep! I've got a list going that can use our scrap paper materials and hopefully this will be up and running by the time we get back :)

Auriana is coordinating with Primates for composter, and we'll be starting this when we return!
