Oceans

Learn about Our Oceans

I will spend at least 10 minutes learning about how our oceans support life on Earth by producing oxygen, regulating climate, and providing habitat, food, and jobs.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track: Earth Day Together!

Earth Day Action: Research and Support Local Organizations

I will spend 10 minutes researching local organizations and businesses in my community, then support one of them by writing a testimonial or positive review, ordering curbside, making a donation to my favorite nonprofit, or supporting them in another way.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Forests

Plant A Garden

I redid the front lawn to be full of flowers and greens that are beneficial for my local environment. I planted calendula and marigold to sustain our butterfly population, nasturtium and parsley for my building to cook with, and kale and squash to help reduce the rainwater runoff by absorbing more of the water.

This virtual assembly is so great! As an adult it is absolutely amazing to see these youth so very motivated to improve environmental conditions.

    Going meatless is sooooooooo easy!
I do it every other year to decrease my impact on the earth. Even during my "meat-eating" years I don't exceed 5 meat meals a week for both environmental and health reasons.
As a culture we eat way too much meat and it's important to remember that in nature, meat is not easy to come by and so a mostly-plant-based diet is actually more natural even through we are "omnivores."

Even though I'm in isolation I feel I'm actually connecting with people more than I used to. It's so easy to just hop on Zoom or FaceTime for a few minutes that I'm able to connect with old friends in Cali, upstate NY, Philly, LI and Queens all in one weekend.

Doing this ecochallenge has really brought to light how much of a difference we're making. I'm amazed when I see these numbers because they come from such easy everyday life choices. The narrative is that doing something like going meatless or composting "doesn't change anything" or "makes no difference" but that is just not true.

I was always reluctant to compost, thought it was difficult. But I started this year and it's easy & rewarding!
