Today I have decided to start a new challenge on my consumer habits. I do not buy many things, but still find myself indulging every once in a while. I am currently making a list of necessities and a do not buy list. I am hoping that I save money and don’t buy anything new. If I need it then it will be secondhand!

I was inspired to write a letter and really enjoyed the process of planning out my words and adding all the meaning to it!

I enjoyed the sunshine today and worked in the garden. I am very grateful to have this extra time to put effort into gardening and off setting some food costs as well as having fresh veggies to eat!

I have been enjoying my time spent outside (instead of being on a screen) and enjoying the sounds of spring!

I am really enjoying the fact that the weather has been gorgeous! This makes spending time outside more enjoyable in my opinion. Plus the sunshine is supplying more happiness in this hectic time!

The current slow pace of my life is very beneficial when completing these challenges. With the current isolation I find that the conversations that I am challenged to have with people over the phone is very uplifting and fills my day with good chats and some laughs. I am also enjoying that I am not driving as much, as there is no where to go. I almost wish I chose more challenges because I have more time to complete them.

I am starting to get a hang of scraping off food into the compost rather than using the faucet to rinse the dishes off before loading them in the dishwasher! It takes a little bit longer than I am used to, but I am happy to save water!

I chose these challenges, because I find that I an less than sustainable in these areas of my life. I am a coffee and chocolate addict, so cutting it out is hard, but when the reason is for the environment and not myself, then it makes it easier to not indulge. I am also bad at communicating with the people in my life, so contacting people as a challenge seems to be helpful to myself and the people that I love! I am not used to scraping instead of rinsing my dishes since I have an odd dishwasher, but I am determined to keep scraping during this challenge and not get lazy and rinse!

    People Connect While Social Distancing
How does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?

My phone calls today were very helpful to me because I was able to have nice chats with my friends that I might not have reached out to if I weren’t a part of this challenge. Speaking to them made my day, since it had been a while since I had talked to them, which makes me happy that this is a daily challenge so that I must keep up the communication. I definitely think our chats were beneficial to my friends too because they were able to talk about what they’ve been doing, how they feel, and talk to someone outside of their family.

    Forests Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

I was wanting a drink today, so I made two teas at home in my mug!
