    Oceans Smart Seafood Choices
Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

the fish that falls within the county of manatee county is: largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, redear sunfish. my diet choices do not fall within this region because I do not eat these types of fish. I can do a better research of each fish to see the benefits of eating them, and try to look for them in the store. however, if I don't like the taste of the fish then I will not continue to eat it.

What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

a sustainable water future would look good for my community. we would be saving a lot of land and water if we did not keep building on the ground. also, if we saved water this could be used to preserve some of the wildlife we have here in Florida. to be sustainable, we would and should only flush when we feel is necessary. we do not need to flush every time we go to the bathroom just to pee, I say after two or three times then we could flush we could also preserve how much bath water we use to shower and fill up a bucket instead of just letting the water run. those are just some examples of how we could change. ad in the future, yes it may be different but by doing those things, the water bills wouldn't be so high and it could benefit the whole community.

my challenges are going well. sometimes, it is hard to do them because I do not have time to go outside or because I am focusing on another class. However, I like doing them because it makes me realize the impact I am giving to my community. I can also educate others as well from the information I am learning.

    Forests Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

I think sometimes it is hard not to use a reusable cup because when im in a rush, I just go to a coffee shop where I get my coffee and then dispose of it when im done. sometimes its quicker to just dispose of a cup rather than use a mug. however, I have lots of mugs which I use all the time when I am home. it is just hard to bring a mug everywhere verses a disposable one. but I use cups that can store hot and cold things in them, that way the transportation of them is easier. I feel good knowing that I a making a small difference. sometimes I never think about how many disposable coffee cups I use, and how it could affect my community.

In what ways is your local community resilient to shock events like we’ve experienced recently? How could you help it become more resilient?

I think the community can be resilient by supporting each other. in recent events like the virus outbreak, times are tough for everyone. it is our mission to be kind to one another and to love each other up during this time of struggle. also, being near family is also important because with all the deaths going on, this makes you realize how important family is. I think I could be more resilient by staying positive and having hope. hope is sometimes all you need to life someone up. I am also looking on a positive side since the quarantine. I have spent more time focusing on myself, doing schoolwork, going home to spend time with my family, and going outside more even if its just 5 minutes.

How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

    carlysa telemaque 4/27/2020 11:47 AM
i connected more to my community because although it was a small thing i did, i felt i could make a change in the world. just by one person picking up trash the earth benefits from that. it also made me realize how important it is to not throw trash on the ground. i never throw trash on the ground because why destroy the natural home orovided for me.

    People Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

    carlysa telemaque 4/23/2020 5:24 PM
I agree that the natural world helps with emotional and spiritual development. For a culture that spends most of its time outside, the earth could greatly benefit from it. people would be kinder to hour home and might treat it better since they have a better sense of what is being put out into the world. not to mention that being outside sparks interest in people, especially kids. feeling the dirt under your feet makes you feel really connected with the earth.

What environmentally friendly habit have you most recently implemented? How do you ensure that you are successful in creating or changing a habit?

    carlysa telemaque 4/23/2020 4:07 PM
I most recently connected with the beach. I find myself always at the beach. When I posted my picture for Earth day, I felt sad because I really miss going to the beach. The sun on my skin and the sound of the ocean made me feel really connected to the environment. I also posted a picture of myself with a green scenery background because outside has pretty backdrops. To ensure that I am successful in changing a habit, I can make sure that I am doing more eco friendly things. I always recycle and if I see trash outside, I just know to pick it up because I want our earth to stay clean
