During travels last year my husband and I purchased honey directly from farmers and beekeepers. We just made a batch of mead (honey wine) from honey we purchased at seasonal Blueberry farm. The farmers rent honey bees for pollination when their blueberry plants bloom and they sell the honey produced. We are also preparing to make smaller batch of mead from cranberry honey. The cranberry honey was purchased from a sustainable apiary we visited last year. We also purchased a Mead making book from the apiary that is coming in handy now!

Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 0 vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
Bringing home unique souvenirs from trips you’ve enjoyed is meaningful, and giving people unique gifts from other places is fun. Seek souvenirs and gifts that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 60 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Fresh Water
Water-Friendly Beauty Products
Avoid beauty products with micro beads or harsh chemicals that will feed into the ground and your water supply.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Seek Alternative Gifts and SouvenirsHow do your consumption choices affect the health of wildlife and other communities?
Heather White 4/30/2020 2:47 PMI have trouble understanding the compulsion to purchase mass produced trinkets that are plastered with the name of the site you visit. I didn't travel anywhere during the challenge and was unable to bring back any souvenirs, I have had fun finding alternate souvenirs during past travels and hope to continue this in the future. I try to frequent local markets, fairs and vendors during my travels and have focused on bring back sustainable and locally produced items.

REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Heather White 4/30/2020 2:16 PMI'm disappointed that I didn't get the chance to explore any new nature/forest areas during this challenge. Social distancing and seasonal allergies have made doing this challenge a real challenge for me! Luckily I'm fortunate to have views of greenery from most of my windows. Though it's not the traditional sense of "Forest Bathing" it is relaxing to just look outside at nature. I also love hearing birds singing during most of my day. Hearing birds go about their normal lives, gives me hope that humans can resume more regular life soon too! I've also pulled out some of my old local nature walk and state park books. It's been quite fun to remember old adventures and I am hopeful to have some new summer adventures soon!
