Here in No. California droughts can be a yearly challenge ,, to combat this we eliminated a lawn from our rear yard and installed pea gravel and stepping stones interspersed with shrubs and large cobbles and boulders ,, all shrubs and trees are on a low drip system.

Here are the pics from your home in Chico, in Northern California.  Later I'll post a few from my visit with you in Walnut Creek, just east of San Francisco.

Uli (Ulrike Nagel) has a great idea!  Post some pics of your yard.  I love it there, so peaceful and lovely.  Do you have any with you, Uncle Bill, Dahlia, Machaela, or me?

My challenge is going with ease and enthusiasm knowing, in a small way, that I am making a difference.

Thanks for sharing, Aunt Pat.  I, too, am finding some challenges.  One is making sure I check in and comment every day.  Amazing how the day can slip by without me noticing!

And it is also a challenge for me to go "with ease and enthusiasm."  Sometimes it feels like, what's the point?  And sometimes it feels stressful or isolating because many of my friends and family don't share my perspective.  But I tried to keep in the forefront a couple things I've learned over the years.  One, make choices from my values, not my feelings.  And two, I am in "integrity" when my intentions, words, and actions are in alignment.

    Food Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

I began recycling our food waste two years ago when our local recycling company provided a “recycle smart organic” container that combines our yard waste (grass clippings, etc) with food waste rather than food waste going to our landfills.

That's great!  I know that there are organic waste pick up companies that serve some communities here in Western Mass.  I don't know if there are any in my community (Springfield) but I'm going to look for some.  I compost kitchen waste but my bins get full sometimes before decomposing.  It would be great if I had somewhere to send the extra food waste.
