Lorraine's actions
Climate
Stay on the Ground
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Climate
Use Muscle Power
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Climate
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 10 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Climate
Local Climate Issues
I will spend at least 60 minute(s) a day researching climate issues or climate solutions in my local area and share with others through my team feed, social media, or conversations with my peers.
Wildlife
Leave No Trace
I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace when doing nature activities alone or with family and friends.
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
Bringing home unique souvenirs from trips you’ve enjoyed is meaningful, and giving people unique gifts from other places is fun. Seek souvenirs and gifts that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 60 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Wildlife
Support Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 60 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Lorraine Chilson 5/01/2020 10:21 PMAbsolutely! Engaging with my neighbors is a blessing! Slowing down helps everything! -
Lorraine Chilson 4/27/2020 12:29 PMStaying at home limits my outdoor progress but I regularly share my FB posts about saving our environment and nature! -
Lorraine Chilson 4/08/2020 8:26 PMSorry I didn't realize that I was to post my daily progress! -

Lorraine Chilson 4/08/2020 8:22 PMSent my sister handmade masks support. She's a CNA in a nursing home that has the virus! Over 30 people are out sick with the virus from there! Praying my sister will be safe! 🙏🙏🙏 -
Lorraine Chilson 4/08/2020 8:20 PMI've been pouring over gardening catalogs looking for plants to grow for pollinators! -
Lorraine Chilson 4/08/2020 8:18 PMI've been studying birds on Cornell's site. Taking a few courses from them! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Research a Wild AnimalWhat interesting facts did you learn about the animal you researched? What are some of your favorite things about this animal?
Lorraine Chilson 3/27/2020 9:39 PMI watch many different nature and animal programs on TV. I love learning about their lives. There is so much we can learn from nature! One of my favorite animals is the black panther. I was surprised to learn that under all that black is the same kind of rosette spots that golden Panthers have. I was amazed to learn that some have learned to hunt alligators! I love it's look and I admire it's stealthy hunting ability. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Support PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators?
Lorraine Chilson 3/27/2020 9:24 PMI have a large garden filled with all types of bushes, fruits, flowering shrubs, vegetables, berries, and flowers. I'm always looking for new plants to try in my garden. That takes research...knowing what will grow in my garden and survive our winter's! I need pollinators to keep my plants producing, healthy and growing strong. Without them we would not have any fresh fruits and vegetables! Man cannot live healthy on meats alone! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Seek Alternative Gifts and SouvenirsHow do your consumption choices affect the health of wildlife and other communities?
Lorraine Chilson 3/27/2020 9:17 PMI grow veggies in the spring and summer into fall and I support our farmers market. Plants support insect populations, which feed birds, which spread seeds through their droppings, making more plants for more insects and more birds! Supporting local farmers helps our community by bringing fresh local grown food to everyone! Nothing better than fresh veggies! Delish!
