Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
People
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 3 piece(s) of litter each day while following the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 3 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.

REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Olivia Helf 4/06/2020 2:08 PMIt can connect me in the way that others might see myself picking up litter which since we all have so much free time right now, then they might go pick up litter as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Olivia Helf 4/06/2020 2:08 PMI used to use plastic coffee cups with plastic straws on a basis from a place such as Starbucks. Now I have purchased metal straws to fill any plastic straws I use as well as I purchased a reusable Starbucks cup to use when I go there. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Olivia Helf 4/06/2020 2:06 PMThe amount suprises me, but I was aware that people do waste a lot of food either because they aren't meal planning and don't use certain items before they go bad. This money could be going towards their other bills they have to pay.
