Wildlife
Leave No Trace
I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace when doing nature activities alone or with family and friends.
Wildlife
Support Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Food
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Participant Feed

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

Klaira Jacobs 4/20/2020 4:16 PMI had a mini picnic in the park today and it was refreshing to get out in the sun. There were lots of squirrels and other small creatures around so I made sure not to bother them. It was very relaxing listening to all the birds and the small creek nearby. -
Klaira Jacobs 4/16/2020 2:29 PMI've made going on walks and cleaning up any garbage I see a daily activity now. It's actually very surprising how many people are still littering. My neighborhood park has plenty of trash cans yet people still can't manage to put their trash in there. But I will continue to clean up any I see so that my environment is beautiful! -
Klaira Jacobs 4/13/2020 6:36 PMComposting is going very well! I'm surprised at how much food my family and I don't finish. It's very helpful to have our chickens though because they eat the scraps right up. With this challenge on trying to waste less food, we've started to meal prep and portion control a lot better! -
Klaira Jacobs 4/08/2020 11:13 AMToday I went on a walk around my neighborhood and in a small park near me, and I was shocked at how much trash there was. My motto is "always leave it cleaner than you found", so of course I picked up all I could find. The amount of pollution there is in the world it reminds me of the movie Wall-E.-
Rowen Stadelhofer 4/16/2020 6:49 PMWall-E is my most feared world! Thank you for picking up litter!! I try to do this too when out and about!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Klaira Jacobs 4/08/2020 10:37 AMI've noticed that other members of my family waste a lot of food. We've all started to reduce our waste and put more scraps into our compost bins. My mom has already been putting some compost in our garden. -
Klaira Jacobs 4/06/2020 2:55 PMI had made myself lunch and couldn't finish it all. Knowing it would go bad I put the rest of it in my compost bin. I have two seperate bins at my house, one for the garden compost and one for my chickens. Sometimes I forget to put the rest of my food scraps in the bins but today I didn't!
