Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 2 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
People
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 7 piece(s) of litter each day while following the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Oceans
Advocate For More Packaging Options
Plastic packaging can clog our water ways and the stomachs of sea creatures. I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 3 meatless meal(s) and/or 3 vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Food
Advocate For More Food Options
Access to affordable, nutritious food is a food justice issue. I will advocate for local and/or organic food options in my state and/or community.
Oceans
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will host or participate in a trash pickup at a local river or beach that follows the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Forests
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will replace or remove the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products in my current diet that are known to contribute to deforestation.
Forests
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 3 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 3 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Marion Kimball 4/30/2020 5:09 AMWow! Our last day! I think TEAM Southcoast did a fantastic job - engaging many different age groups to support and sustain the survival of our environment. I am a member of The Climate Reality Project (Massachusetts Southcoast Chapter) and urge everyone to join. There is a Zoom meeting Monday night, May 4th at 6:30 if you are interested in learning more about our mission. www.climaterealityproject.org-
Laura Gardner 4/30/2020 7:29 AMThanks for plugging the meeting, Ronny! Anyone who wants to join the meeting (or just join our email list) can email [email protected] and I'll add you to our email list. We don't have our own website yet. You can also sign up for our email list on bit.ly/joincrsc

Marion Kimball 4/29/2020 4:36 AMWoke up to a gorgeous sunrise and it is obviously going to be a lovely day, although I do appreciate the not-so-perfect days too : ) Happy Continuation of the 2020 Earth Day to everyone!!!! -
Marion Kimball 4/27/2020 5:33 PMNo response from the grands yet - have a feeling that I am going to work very hard on getting them to pay attention to Climate Reality. Guess that will be my post eco-challenge challenge: ) I will need to contact their science teachers and see if that could be part of the problem. I hope to make "The Human Element" part of the curriculum for their school. -
Marion Kimball 4/24/2020 9:55 AMI just want to say how proud I am to be associated with a large number of the humans on this awesome SCTEAM !! They are all pre-teens and teenagers and they are doing a fantastic job with this Climate Reality/Earth Day Celebration online event. I am quite sure their Science teacher is really pleased with their commitment to this Eco-Challenge as well. -
Marion Kimball 4/23/2020 8:31 AMI felt really good about my beach trash cleanup yesterday. Also I watched the documentary "Fantastic Fungi" - amazing!! All my observations during walks will be more aware of these incredible beings of the universe. -
Marion Kimball 4/22/2020 5:51 AMI have asked my three teenage grandchildren to please do "something nice" for their planet today, and commit to something in the future. And I have asked many people in my family to please watch the documentaries "The Human Element" and/or "Fantastic Fungi". Both are amazing and should be included in all school curriculums! We will see who responds at the end of the day. -
Marion Kimball 4/17/2020 7:08 PMI would like to recommend - just in case you haven't heard about these films yet - that everyone watch The Human Element" - on Amazon Prime, HULU and I think YouTube. And also watch "Fantastic Fungi" - https://fantasticfungi.com or https://FANTASTICFUNGIFILM.VHX.TV/ or https:/vimeo.com/ondemand/fantasticfungi -
Marion Kimball 4/13/2020 7:57 PMLast week I collected roadside debris on a stretch of busy road near my residence. There was so much it filled two of the large orange Dartmouth collection bags. Unfortunately I was not able to remove a porcelain toilet which has been there for at least a year. As soon as the weather clears I will head out again - to the next section - and collect more. I had several drive by, bike by, and walk by people tell me they appreciated what I was doing. Maybe one of them will pitch in and assist me next time ?!?! -
Marion Kimball 4/07/2020 9:10 AMI signed up on time but got a late start participating, with no viable excuses. I am on the path now and doing Very Well. Also excited to see that a good friend of mine is one of the Captains and she has brought pretty much all of her science students on board to participate. Plus they are all doing really well. -
Marion Kimball 4/07/2020 9:02 AMAnother beautiful day to work outside on cleanup projects. I am doing a self appointed trash collection on the area of Smith Neck Road near where I live. It has bothered me for some time, very unpleasant to walk along this road, and I am really grateful for the EcoChallenge to actually get me moving in the right direction. And if I don't get it all in one afternoon, I pledge to keep working on it.
