Scott's actions
Wildlife
Support Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 15 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Wildlife
Research Benefits of Biodiversity
I will spend at least 15 minutes researching how biodiversity positively impacts our world and how the loss of biodiversity harms it.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Fresh Water
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow can you encourage biodiversity by your own actions?
Scott Pelitire 4/28/2020 12:54 PMI encourage biodiversity by keeping plants that support pollinators and trying to conserve habitat loss by composting and recycling. More importantly, introducing the sense of wonder that nature brings to our young generation will likely install values that the world is worth caring for. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhy is it important to take care of pollinators?
Scott Pelitire 4/24/2020 8:26 AMPollinators add billions of dollars to the global economy by providing their services to a great many of the flowering plants that provide the food that we eat. The agricultural industry could not do without them. -
Scott Pelitire 4/20/2020 9:53 AMGreen anole lizard in my palm tree. Recently, an invasive species has put some pressure on our natives. What effect does this have on the biodiversity of the region?
The green anoles have existed in North America for 6 million years, but the brown species was recently introduced through trade explains Simon Lailvaux, a professor of biology at the University of New Orleans
