I will scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher and only run the dishwasher when it’s full.

Say No to Plastic Straws

An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.

How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

By picking up trash around my community, I'm learning about what items are being thrown/blown away which helps me understand where efforts are needed to minimize this. Cigarette butts, plastic bags, and cups have been the majority of the items I have picked up. These are items are used everyday, so this tells me the community needs to do more to prevent such items being so easily accessible and also being aware of where these items go once their 1 time use is over.

When it comes to rinsing dishes, it's too easy to just let the water run, So similar to how kids learn to wash their hands long enough, I have started to give myself a time limit for how long I spend cleaning off my dishes.
